Shekhawati............
 Nowhere
else in the world is there such a profusion of wall paintings,
so intricate and finely executed, in hundreds of havelies,
temples, cenotaphs, wells and forts, as in this region. The
land of Shekha (Rao Shekaji 1433-1488) is known for its human
and artistic enterprises. This region has been the home of the
Marwari community, which for more than a century has been the
backbone of commercial entrepreneurship in India. The area
being totally arid and local opportunities limited,
enterprising men moved out of their homeland leaving behind
the picturesque walls of Shekhawati; a history of wealth.
Nawalgarh
The finest Shekhawati frescoes can be seen here. Hundred of
painted havelies like Aath haveli complex, Anandilal Poddhar
haveli, Bansidhar Bhagat haveli and Roop Niwas Palace, now a
heritage hotel are the main attractions.
Lachmangarh
It has one of the best forts in the region. The imposing Char
Chowk Haveli speaks volumes about the prosperity and life
style of a Marwari household.
Dundlod
The Thakur of this small town had modernized his rugged fort.
It now houses a well stocked library and portraits done in
European style.The Goenka havelies of Dundlod have some very
impressive frescoes.
Mukandgarh
A town built around a temple square. The havelies worth
visiting are the Kanoria and Ganeriwala.
Mandawa
The medieval fort of Mandawa gradually rise on the horizon
like a mirage. A breathtaking view of the town can be seen
from the terrace of Castle Mandawa. Precious collection of
arms with jade handles, traditional ceremonial costumes can be
seen at the Museum at the Castle. The havelies worth a visit
are Chokhani, Saraf, Goenka and Ladia in this town.
Fatehpur
A town once ruled by Muslim Nawabs has excellent frescoes on
Devra and Singhania havelies. These are adorned with mirror
work on their entrances. One should also visit Ram Gopal
Mahavir Prasad Goenka haveli, Hukmi Chand Choudhri haveli.
Churu
famous for its Kothari Haveli (1915), Kanhaya Lal Bagh haveli
(1870) and the Surana haveli.
